Why I Created TopSkills

I’m seeing genuine fear and panic among senior software engineers about what’s coming with AI. Not the excitement energy of “let’s try this new tool” but real anxiety about their career survival and existence.

Engineers who’ve spent 10-15 years building deep expertise and skill are watching as AI commoditises their craft wondering:

“What happens to me and my job? What do I focus on? How do I stay relevant?”

Most of the resources out there aren’t helping. Plenty of hot takes from influencers who’ve never led production teams or generic career advice that ignores the AI-specific reality we’re facing.

I created TopSkills to give senior engineers a place to review and determine the skills they actually need to excel through this transition—not just survive it.

I’m navigating this myself—right now, at scale, with real teams—and sharing what’s working as we learn.
Not because I’ve figured it all out, but because I’m a couple years ahead and can help others move from fear to confidence.
